Travel Information
The city of Avignon is located in the Rhône valley in south
eastern France 100 km north of Marseille and 200 south of Lyon.
The nearest international airport is
Marseille but numerous high speed trains
(TGV) link Paris/Roissy Charles de Gaulle
airport directly to Avignon in approximately 3.5 hours. There is a regional
airport in Avignon, with two to three flights / day to Paris-Orly.
Please note that Paris-Orly airport is
poorly connected to the TGV's to Avignon. Here is a selection of web sites
to organize and facilitate your journey:

About
the Workshop
The Workshop on Geostatistics for Environmental Applications will be
held on November 20 and 21, 2000, prior to the conference.
Objective:
The objective of the Workshop on Geostatistics for Environmental Applications
is to present an intuitive introduction to
geostatistical methods as applied to problems encountered in environmental
studies. The basic concepts will be illustrated through real case studies
using interactive software. The workshop will be split between lecture
sessions and interactive workshop sessions. Each participant will receive
a set of lecture notes.
Who Should Attend :
This workshop is aimed at professionals involved in the analysis of
spatial data sets for environmental studies who wish to have a first course
on geostatistics.
Tutors :
-
Denis Allard, INRA,
-
Roland Froidevaux, FSS International,
-
Jaime Gomez-Hernandez, UPV,
-
Amilcar Soares, IST
Program :
-
1st day : Introductory case study; Univariate and bivariate data analysis;
Modeling of spatial continuity; Introduction to estimation and kriging.
-
2nd day : Accounting for indirect information; Estimation of local uncertainties;
Building risk map; Introduction to stochastic simulation.
Workshop fees :
-
2000 FF for participants,
-
1300 FF for students.
Late registrations (after October 1st) are 400 FF more expensive. These
prices include: admission to the workshop, lecture notes, coffee
